Outside the door of this particular living quarters, which was at the end of a hallway, was a name plate that simply listed the occupants. The first line said "Doctor Chiro" and the second line said "Scaag". Additionally, there was a wire that ran from the keypad, along the door frame, to a small access device. The device sat about a foot and a half off the ground and was programmed to allow Scaag access to the living space. An identical device sat on the inside of the door to allow the small mech back out if he wanted.
Upon entering the living space, any visitor would be met with the sight of a small, but functional, apartment-styled quarters. The space was mostly organized and the furnishings were fairly basic. However, the walls - and sometimes the floor - would likely be a different set of colors every time someone visited, thanks to the resident artist.
To the right of the entrance was the living room with a large couch facing a widescreen TV, which sat on a simple TV stand against the right wall. A low, plain coffee table sat comfortably in between the couch and TV. To the left of the entrance was the dining room area with a decent sized table. A small kitchenette (a sink, decent counter space, and a refrigerator) ran along the back half of the left wall and around the corner, continuing partially along the opposite wall. Next to the refrigerator was a very small cooler, containing small energon cubes for the quarter's tiny occupant.
Opposite of the entrance, near the center of the opposite wall, were two doors leading to two bedrooms. The bedroom on the right (passed the living room) had a simple, but comfortable, berth on the right and a low nightstand, with a continuous, faintly-glowing lamp, beside it. The nightstand also had a small berth for the tiny occupant of the living space. A desk and chair sat on the left of the room, a little ways from the door. Additionally, a small set of stairs ran along the wall between the door and the desk, leading up to the height of the desk. Various kinds of paints were arraigned by color along the back of the desk, against the wall. On the far side of the desk was an organizer with paper of different kinds, blank and ready to be written -or painted- on. A door on the opposite wall lead to a simple wetroom for cleaning. Both the bedroom door and the wetroom door had access devices for Scaag.
The bedroom on the left (passed the kitchen) was set up as a small office/lab space for Chiro's hobbies and personal research. Inside there was a large table in the middle of the room, typically covered in various experiments and equipment, and a wheeled desk chair resided beside the table. The walls were lined with various storage cabinets and shelves, filled with all kinds of substances, parts, and tools. Like the other bedroom, a door on the far wall lead to a simple wetroom, however this wetroom was mostly used as a small chem lab. The door to this room was always kept closed and locked (unless otherwise noted) with a sign that clearly stated "Chiro's Lab DANGER: KEEP OUT". Additionally, this door did NOT have an access device for Scaag.

Chiro awoke with a small groan. Her processor was sluggish to start up and she could feel the toll she had taken on herself in every joint and cable.
"I pushed myself too far this time…"
She muttered quietly to herself as sat up on her berth. She looked around, slightly confused for a moment. Then she remembered how she got there.
Chiro had been in the medbay helping Gearchange, even though she knew she needed to take a break after four, almost five, straight months of fairly solid work. The breaking point was when she realized she had power cycled while in one of the back rooms of the medbay to gather a few tools. Somehow, she had managed to make her way down to the living area of the base and register for her own quarters. Upon receiving a living space, she made herself at home before getting rest. She knew at the time that it was going to make her condition worse, but she also knew she wasn't going to be able to rest unless she felt it was her own space. And thus, she finally unpacked her personal lab from her subspace. It wasn't everything she had back on Cybertron - her personal subspace could only carry so much without becoming unstable - but having a personal lab set up once more made her feel at ease.
Chiro had also set up the space with Scaag in mind. Since she adopted him, she knew he was likely going to live with her in the living quarters. Thus, she made sure the general living space and their bedroom was two-foot-tall-mech friendly.
Chiro shook her helm slightly. She knew she needed to get back to the medbay, but she sat there for a moment, trying to think. Her processor wasn't clearing as quickly as she would like. She didn't have any high grade, so it wasn't a "hang over" as humans called it. Then it hit her. She didn't refuel properly either. She got up and headed to the small kitchen in the living space and got a chilled energon cube from the refrigerator. Then she sat down at the dining room table and slowly drank the fresh energon, letting herself wake up.

Scaag was still asleep in the very tiny berth he had gotten. For some reason he was very tired and he dreamt of different painting stuff.... At least that was what he wanted Chiro to think. Actually, he was very awake and in a different part of the living quarters. The couch looked a bit dull in his opinion so he had decided to paint it and make it happier! What a great idea! This time he used a light yellow mixed with a deep purple. It got pretty nice actually since he started with the seats and worked his way up to the top of it. But then he tripped and fell down with a "Clank" as his frame hit the floor. His elbow joint hurt but he continued to paint. He had to finish it so he went back to painting the back of it the best he could.
Nananananaaa.. And a little there....

Chiro was almost done with her energon cube when she heard something hit the floor over by the couch. She looked over and watched the couch slowly being covered in yellow and purple paint. She exvented slightly, but for once she couldn't get mad at the young mech. It was just a couch, not an important, life-saving piece of equipment. Given Scaag was still painting, she figured that he was alright after taking an apparent tumble - he certainly wasn't beeping - but she felt she needed to ask anyway.
"Are you ok, Scaag? Oh, and you missed a spot."
Chiro added a gentle tease to the young artist as she watched him paint. While she knew he wouldn't "grow up" like Cybertronian sparklings, she wondered if he had the capacity to mature given time and guidance. From what she knew, he was a free spirit, let loose to roam -and paint- the halls of the base. And it was a possibility he would be this way forever given his hardware structure and programming.
Chiro chucked to herself as the irony of the situation was overwhelming. She had had plans to begin a small A.I. research project herself before the War started. To create a sparkling similar to how Scaag was, though larger and no nuclear grenade within. She wanted to see how the A.I. would develop over time if it started from the state of a "sparkling", unlike the typical "adult" A.I.s that could be found on Cybertron. And, depending on how the A.I. developed, she also had plans to upgrade it's hardware in a similar way as a sparkling growing up. But that project was quickly derailed by the War. Perhaps later in time she could make Scaag a companion, but for now, the young mech was handful enough.
However, given she never had a sparkling of her own, Chiro knew there would be a learning curve for taking Scaag under her care. Despite the headache of painting everything, she had taken a shine to the little mech as his ever-happy attitude brought hope to her Spark. The kind of hope that war-filled medbay work tended to wear away over time.

I'm not done yet, Mommy. And I'm ok, except for my elbow, it hurts...
Scaag replied as he took a break from the painting and looked up at the giant figure of Chiro. She really was a giant to him as he barely reached to the middle of her lower legs. But Scaag didn't mind, he was happy anyways. Then he went back to painting the couch again, singing a little to himself, no particular song, just random tunes. Scaag was a bit random, something that Chiro maybe had been taught by is point. He also remembered that the underside of the couch needed painting so he transformed into his grenade mode and rolled under the couch.
When he was under the couch, he continued to roll around as he was covered in a small layer of paint. That made him able to paint both the floor under the couch and the underside of the couch at the same time! It really was amazing how many clever ideas he had. It of course works, until you accidentally rolls over a screw which makes a dent in your frame and rolls into the leg of the couch. That was exactly what happened to Scaag and he began to whimper.
Owwwie... It hurts.....

Chiro watched Scaag continue painting as she finished her energon cube. Then she heard him bump into the couch leg and whimper in pain. She exvented slightly as she got up and went over to the couch. Kneeling down, she looked under the couch to locate the little mech. As soon as she did, she reached under and gently pulled him out from under the couch. She held him securely in her servos as she chided him gently.
"You need to be a little more careful when you're rolling around, Scaag. But tell me where it hurts and I'll make it feel better."
Chiro added the last part with a warm smile.

Scaag transformed back into his robot mode and looked up at Chiro again. It still hurt and he hoped that she actually meant what she said about making it feel better.
Here... And here.. And here.
He said as he pointed at his right elbow, his left pede and his right shoulder. He maybe exaggerated a bit but didn't all sparklings do that? He proceeded to give her a small smile as he hugged her servo.

Chiro chuckled slightly. She knew he was exaggerating some, but from what she knew and heard from other parents and their sparklings, they tended to do that. The evidence for this case was in the smile he gave her. However, she knew that he was actually in pain as well, so she flipped her visor down and scanned him. His elbow was damaged, and he had a few dings and minor injuries here and there.
Chiro then took him over to the dining table and set him down gently. She took a few small tools out of the medkit she carried with her at all times and set them down beside him.
"Alright, I need you to hold very still."
Chiro instructed him before leaning in close to see his tiny elbow joint. She still used her visor as a magnifier, but he was only two-feet tall, which made it very difficult to repair him. Carefully and precisely, she repaired his joint to how it used to be: working and painless. She then carefully examined and repaired or "fixed" his other ailments, making sure to at least touch the spots he pointed out here and there, even if there wasn't any damaged to be repaired.
"Alright, I've taken care of aaaall the hurt spots, my little artist. So now you can go back to having fun painting the couch the beautiful yellow and purple you chose. Oh, and the walls look a little dull, do you think you can brighten them up while I work in the medbay?"
Chiro smiled warmly at the little mech, gently wrapping her servos around him and bringing him up to her face in a pseudo hug - he was way too small for her to give him a proper hug. She also figured that giving him permission to paint the walls for once would probably help him feel better. Maybe Chiro was being playfully over-dramatic for the little one's sake, or perhaps it was just her chance to really relax and spend some time with her adopted sparkling, but she noted her own attitude change when taking care of Scaag. Perhaps having a sparkling would benefit her more than hinder, unlike what she used to think when working back on Cybertron.
Chiro also was born of the Well, so she had no instinctual memories of growing up with a family to fall back on for what to do for a sparkling. But she had observations of both Cybertronain and Human families and their sparklings and children. So while Chiro knew she was still needed at the medbay most of the time, she also knew that if she was going to take care of Scaag the way she should, she needed to make time for him and give him feedback that would help him grow and feel cared for. And perhaps he'd meet the two -at the time very independent "teenagers"- she had adopted back on Cybertron some day. Then she wondered momentarily where the twins she took care of ended up. She had a bad feeling that they shared the same fate as many during the War, but she decided to push that thought away in favor of paying attention to the little artist in her servos.

Scaag found himself get carried away and curiously lookd around. He hadn't seen much of their home since he had been asleep when they got there and painted the couch when he woke up. It didn't look bad, just a little dull, to short in the color department. He would have to change that later. Maybe a little olive color there and there..... It seemed to work very well with a shade of red.... The more he thought about it, the more he approved of the idea. And then he was sat down on the table while his mother took out some of her tools. They also semed a bit dull and he made a mental note to paint them too later. Maybe as a surprise for her, she would surely like that!
I'm very still, look! I don't move at all!
He told her happily as she began to repair him. It did sting a little and he did his best not to move or squirm until she was done. And when she was, he moved it to see if it was fixed. It was of course fixed but he still wanted to try it. And the other spots which had hurt was a little bit better too. And when she mentioned that he was allowed to paint the walls, his entire faceplate showed a huge sign of happiness.
Can I paint the walls? However I want? Yay, thank you, Mommy! I love you!
He reached out his tiny arms towards her face and hugged it. He was really happy now and his entire body showed signs of excitment, it wiggled and squirmed in her servos as he wanted to go and paint it right now.

Chiro chuckled, but she didn't let him go just yet.
"Yes, paint the walls any way you want. However!"
Chiro said the last word sternly and paused for effect. She looked him in the optics.
"You need to be careful when you are climbing the walls. I'll be at the medbay so I won't be able to make you feel better right away if you get hurt or if you get stuck. So, promise me that you'll be careful while you paint."
Chiro wasn't sure if he would actually follow through on the promise, but she felt she needed to make it clear at least once. She was both curious and nervous about letting him paint the walls, but she knew it was his passion and it would be better to give him her permission now.

Uh-oh. Now she was serious. From his experience with that, it usually meant that something bad was going to happen or had happened. He stopped squirming and looked at her carefully. He listened carefully and nodded eagerly. He was happy that he was allowed to paint it but being careful, that wasn't his strongest profession.
I promise to be careful. But why do you have to go to the medbay? Are you hurt?
Scaag asked as he tried to spot any injuries on her. He couldn't find anything so it made him slightly confused.

Chiro simply smiled at the young mech's question.
"I'm not hurt, don't worry. But I'm a doctor, and there are others who are hurt that need my help to feel better. Just like how I helped you feel better. In fact..."
Chiro held Scaag in one servo as she checked her data pad with the other, glancing through the medical logs. She frowned slightly at what she saw.
"The one who created you, Skyspray, is there now and needs my help."
She then put Scaag down on the table and gathered her tools, putting them back in her medkit.

Good. Mommy shouldn't be hurt. But are you the only one who can make them feel better? Do you do the same things to them as you do to me? Is it fun? Do you know others who are there?
Scaag asked a lot of questions, simply because he was curious. And he wanted to know why she had to leave him. He didn't like to be left alone but it did give him better and more options when painting, something which he did like. Amd when she mentioned Skyspray.... He recognized the name but couldn't exactly palce it. But he knew that he knew the person very well at least.
Are you going now? But... I'm hungry...
He said while looking up at her with begging optics.

Chiro exvented lightly and shook her head slightly, but then smiled. She wasn't sure what to do with all his rapid-fire questions. But she knew that he just didn't know nor could he seem to remember much for long. She needed to fix that one of these days.
"I do enjoy my work. And it's my turn to help them feel better, so I do need to go now. But first..."
Chiro went over to the refrigerator and got out a tiny energon cube for the hungry sparkling. She opened a drawer at the kitchen counter and pulled out a matching tiny straw and poked it into the cube, like a juice box for human children. She went back over to him and handed it to him.
"This is for you. If you get hungry again before I come back, there's a snack for you in the that refrigerator."
She pointed out the small refrigerator that was there specifically for Scaag. She picked up the medkit and put it back in its place in her backpack. Then she pulled out a small communicator device, putting it down on the table beside him. Smiling again at the little mech, she continued.
"In the mean time, have fun exploring our new home and painting the walls. I expect them to be pretty colors when I come home. If you need me, push the button on that and it will call me, ok?"

Chiro smiled to the little mech, seeing him confirm that he understood her. She was about to leave when she remembered something. She walked over to the other side of the dining table and moved a small stairway she built to sit against the edge near Scaag, making sure he saw it, so that he could safely get down from the table. She smiled to the little mech once more and then headed out for the medbay.

And now she was gone. He didn't think much about it since he had his food and that consumed all of his short attention span right now. It wasn't anything special with this cube except for the fact that it had a straw in it. Now he sat there and thought about some of the life's biggest questions. Like, why did bright orange and pink clash, why did everyone seem to dislike art and why was he cold? These questions had bothered him for a long time now and he was getting tired of it. But that was for another time. Now he had to paint the walls and finish painting the couch.
He threw the now empty cube on the floor as he didn't need it anymore and picked up the device that Chiro had left behind. He hadn't listened all that well when she had explained what it did but he assumed that it was important in some way. Then Scaag proceeded to climb down the stairway and walk over to the couch. He put the device down before starting to paint again and since he was almost done, it didn't take long until the entire couch was painted in purple and yellow. And it had a big C and a smaller S on it too, showing where their places were. He stepped away to look at the couch that he had painted before shifting his attention to the walls. The walls that now were going to change into colorful.... Walls.

The walls were dull and he had gotten permission to paint them, so that was what he did. He chose to start with the one which was against their bedroom since he felt like it. Scaag usually hadn't a reason to do something and he didn't need one either. Not when it involved painting. He took his paintbrush and began to paint the wall in a pleasant cyan color, smiling happily. He started from the bottom and worked his way up, climbing on whatever he could find and looking up the entire time. That was so that he wouldn't see how far up he was. When he reached the roof he glanced down briefly before looking up again. How was he supposed to get down? He didn't know but he could probably find a way. Scaag looked over to his left and saw a wire that went over to a lamp that hung from the roof too. He decided to jump towards it and grabbed it, accidentally pullingit down with him. At least it went pretty slow so he didn't get hurt when he hit the ground although the lamp didn't make it.
Now he began to paint what he meant to paint all along: a full scale picture of Chiro and him. It would take a while but Scaag had all the time he needed. He hummed happily for himself as he painted and smiled as the picture of his adopted mother slowly took its place on the wall. It became quite the picture, looking mostly identical to her actual appearance. He himself was sitting on her shoulder, looking out over the room. Then he used the same way of getting down, except he didn't crash the lamp this time. He only pulled down some more wires. He didn't bother with that though and went on to the next wall. That was the one towards the kitchen and this time he didn't even bother with thinking about colors or a motive. He just painted various shapes and forms and lines all over it, making it a complete and utter mess. But he liked is so that was good enough, right?

Now it was time to paint more of the quarters in happy colors. He had painted most walls now, both on the inside and the outside of the rooms. The kitchen was a mess of bright colors while his bedroom was in a cyan color as the wall on the outside. The living room was up next and that was going to be a mixture of red and brown. He felt that those two colors fit together very well, if others thought so? Not something he cared about. Scaling the walls weren't as hard here as there were small shelves on the wall that he could climb on. They got painted too of course. But he couldn't say that all the shelves made it as he jumped down on them so that a few of them fell down and broke. The floor in every room was green because Scaag had thought it was nice to have a green floor, like the grass. But there was one room he hadn't painted; the room next to his bedroom.
It was a rather weird room since it was the only room he couldn't go into. He saw no reason to why that should exist so he decided to try to get in. But how? He couldn't go under it or over it, nor around or through. Or could he go through? Probably not but it was worth a try. He ran over to the living room where he had found a laser cutrer on one of the broken shelves. He picked it up and ran back out to the door. That device that Chiro gave him had still not been useful to him but now it maybe would be. He plaved it kn the floor and stood on it and that button in the middle to get higher up as he used the laser cutter to cut himself an opening. Little did he know that that was a button that would call Chiro home again but even if he knew, it didn't really bother him. Because he did nothing wrong, right?

When Chiro arrived at their living quarters, she felt like she couldn't get the door open fast enough. Once she stepped inside, she quickly surveyed the room seeing the wonderfully painted walls and floor - and the mess that accompanied it. She then zeroed in on the tiny culprit, who was currently trying to break into her lab. She quickly strode over to him and took the laser cutter from him and picked him up in her other servo. She spoke with a firm tone as she frowned.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Chiro was upset with him enough to not even let him answer, but she wanted to know his thought process better. At the end of the day, she really didn't know much about the mech she had adopted. While she knew that her firm tone would probably scare him, she obviously needed to lay some ground rules out for him in a manner that he'd remember.
