Scaag had been busy with cutting through the door so he didn't notice that Chiro came in. That was until she was right behind him. He turned around to face her with a smile which quickly dropped when she took his laser cutter and frowned at him. What had he done now? Nothing wrong, he was sure of that anyways. And as she asked what he thought he was doing, he answered that question.
I was going to paint the walls. But I couldn't get in this room because you forgot to put a door to me there. So I help mommy with that. Have you stopped working now?
Scaag asked while trying to climb up her arm and onto her shoulder. It was much more pleasant to sit there than in the servo. He also knew that it was harder for her to grab him if he was moving and she didn't sound all that happy, something which bithered Scaag a bit. Wasn't she happy that he had tried to help her?

Chiro initially tried to keep him in her servos but eventually gave up. She sighed.
"Painting the walls is helpful. Breaking things and making a mess is not helpful. It gives me more work to do. And the reason why there's no door access for you here is because I want to keep you safe. In there is my lab and if you did in there what you did out here, you'll get hurt. And I don't want you getting hurt."
Should she have bothered with the explanation? He probably wasn't going to remember it. He had issues before and his memory banks- An idea struck her.
"If you want to see the inside of my lab, you need to do exactly as I say, alright?"

Would he get hurt? Why? That was confusing, at least to him and now he was more confused. Was he supposed to be in there or not? Being confused also made him sad. And when he was sad, he began to cry. Small tears began falling down his cheeks and he shook a little bit as he sat on her shoulder. This also made him unable to hear what she said in the end.
Mo...mo... Mommy angry.... *sniff* sorry....

Chiro picked the little mech up off her shoulder and held him close to her face in a gentle hug. She realized that his crying probably negated what she had said already so made sure she speak gently this time.
"Apology accepted, Scaag. I'm not angry with you anymore."
She very carefully wipes his tears away and lifted his chin to look her in the optics.
"Now that I'm here, I can keep you safe in my lab. Do you want to see it? We can paint the walls in my lab together."
Chiro had no idea if it would cheer him up or not, but she had an idea and a plan.

Scaag continued to cry and reached out his arms and hugged her face when he was close enough to do so. And as she said that she wasn't angry and that he was allowed to paint the room with her, the crying slowly decreased. It also helped that she wiped his tears away.
P..pr...promise?
He said carefully. He didn't want to get fooled. Not now..

Chiro looked at him warmly.
"Promise, so long as you don't touch anything unless I tell you you can. In fact..."
Chiro held Scaag in one servo and unlocked the door with the other.
"Let's go ahead and do that now. And then there's something I want to do to help you, Scaag."
She then carried him into the lab and set him down on the table and went over to a cabinet, pulling out a large paintbrush for herself. She turned and smiled at the tiny mech.
"So, what color do you think the walls should be?"

Now Scaag was a bit happier. She wasn't mad at him, which was good. And she allowed him to paint, which was good too. Her help was appreciated, now he didn't have to take everything himself.
I want... That color!
He replied and pointed to a canister which was very bright pink. Almost that pink that hurt your eyes. Lucky Scaag that he could see colors without them messing with him.

Chiro followed where he was looking and pointing. It was quite a bright pink, but it was still better than the dull gray the walls were currently. She chuckled and took the paint can and a paint tray down from the shelf of paint, bringing it over to the table next to Scaag.
"Now, you can climb the walls to paint the higher spots, but let me know when you want down and I'll help you down so you don't get hurt on the equipment. Ok?"
Chiro then opened the paint, stirred it, and then poured some into the paint tray. She then brought Scaag and the paint tray down to the floor so that he could get started one of the walls. She picked up the paint can and headed to the wall with the shelf of dangerous chemicals. It was the area she was the most concerned about with him in there. While she painted the wall, she kept an eye on Scaag, just in case he was about to get hurt somehow.

He held onto her servo as good as he could when she brought him down on the floor. It was a bit scary going down but if he wasn't looking down, everything was alright. He took his paintbrush and the chosen color before beginning to pain one of the walls in the bright pink color. But it didn't go as fast as he wanted it to go so he transformed into his grenade mode instead. He rolled into the paint and made sure he was covered in it before using the small spikes on his alt-mode to roll up the wall. Now he covered a much bigger area than before, although he had to twist and turn to make sure he didn't hit anything.
Look at me, Mommy! Look!
He shouted as he rolled around on the wall, making it a very bright pink in no particular way. He just kept rolling.

Chiro looked over when she heard Scaag calling for her. She couldn't help but chuckle seeing the little mech use his alternative mode in such a creative manner.
"Clever! And at the rate you're going, you'll have your wall painted before I finish mine!"
Chiro laughed lightly and then continued to paint her wall, but at a slightly faster pace. She had to admit to herself that she was having fun with the spontaneous painting. However, a strange feeling crept up on her. She couldn't place it, but after a little while she decided to check her systems later in favor of what was going on at the moment. It was rare for her to find something as enjoyable as repairing and experimenting, but painting with her adopted son found it's place in her spark.

Scaag was happy that Chiro looked at him or at least said she looked at him and that made him roll a bit faster on the wall. He liked to have someone whonlooked at him when he did stuff. Felt comfortable and secure.
I'm faster than Mommy!
He giggled a little and kept painting his wall and rolling around. It didn't take long until he was done with it and leapt down towards Chiro.

It was a good thing Chiro was keeping an eye on him. When she noticed he was almost finished, she had paused her work -though she was almost done- and waited for him to ask to be let down. Except he didn't ask. Realizing this, she quickly stepped forward and reached out to catch him. When he was safely in her servos, she shook her head slightly, but smiled. She then surveyed his work and nodded.
"Good job, Scaag! The lab looks so much brighter now!"
Brighter wasn't necessarily the best, but it was better than the dull gray that used to be there. She looked at her wall, and then the other two walls. One wall was literally covered in shelves, so there wasn't much to paint there. She smiled at Scaag.
"Well, we can't really paint that wall... So that means there's only one more wall left! Do you want to start painting it? I'll join you once I'm done with my wall."

Scaag giggled a little as Chiro caught him in her servos and hugged them. But as he was full of paint, her servos got full of it too. But it could probably be washed away later and if it couldn't, her servos would be a bright pink from now on. Kinda pretty in his opinion. He also smiled as she complimented his work. He thought it looked really pretty now and even though one wall couldn't be painted because stuff were in the way. Stupid things in the way! But when she said that he would paint the last wall he immediately leaped onto the wall and began to paint it, transforming in midair and rolling around on it.
Hurry up mommy!

Chiro chuckled again and looked at her servos. It was washable paint that they were using so she didn't mind the paint getting on her servos. She then quickly finished the wall she was working on and after taking a moment to make sure she didn't miss anything, she went over to join Scaag with the last wall. She filled in the spots that Scaag left as he rolled around.
While Chiro painted with Scaag, she was making measurements and calculations. She had an idea of what she wanted to do as her first personal project here on Earth, but it would depend on a series of factors. Chiro smiled at her adopted son.
"Scaag, when we're done painting, I want to see if I can give you an upgrade to help you paint more."
Chiro wasn't sure if he would be excited or not, but she thought she'd give it a shot. Besides, she made it a point to not do any changes or upgrades to anyone without their consent.

Scaag was high up on the wall, painting the edge that touched the roof when Chiro spoke to him. He turned briefly so that he looked at her through a small display on te side of the grenade. He had done some work on the wall and it had gone much faster now that she helped him. Scaag didn't know what to do when he had painted the wall though, should he paint something else or? But as he heard what she said he began to think about it.
Help me paint more? Can you do that?
He asked eagerly. That was something which made him really excited, the thought of painting even better!

((Wait, are we done with painting the wall? XD))
Chiro smiled warmly at the little mech as she finished painting the spot she was working on. She was glad that he was open to the idea. However, that wouldn't be the only thing she'd improve. There was a "laundry list", as humans called it, of things she could improve and upgrade for him, but she knew she could only do a little bit at a time or else his system would go into shock.
"Yes, I can! But I'll need you to sit very still on the table over there for a little while. Can you do that for me?"

((Yeah, I guess.))
Scaag had now finished the wall, or at least finished what he thought mattered. If there was a small spot somewhere then it could be there for all he cared, he wouldn't see it since he was too small. And he beeped happily when Chiro told him to sit on the table.
Ok! I'm coming down! And I can be very still.
He transfomed and jumped down from the roof, onto Chiro and then onto the table. When he got there he sat as still as he could and looked up at her with bright optics.

Chiro chuckled slightly at the small mechs excitement. She went over to table and smiled warmly to him.
"Alright, I need you to close your optics and relax. You'll feel a little funny in a moment, but I want you to imagine painting a fantastic mural of the Autobots."
As she spoke, she gave him a bit of tranquilizer to keep him calm for the next part. She then prepared to hook him up to her computer to put him in maintenance mode. She pulled up a series of applications made for extended maintenance and upgrades on her computer and input his schematics that she had just made. She was waiting for the tranquilizer to go into effect before hooking him up to her computer and initializing maintenance mode to put him into an extended sleep cycle.

Scaag did as she said and closed his optics and imagined that he was painting a very big wall of autobots that he had seen. Like that rude one in the medbay. At least he thought it had been a rude bot there. Then he started feeling a bit funny like if he was flying and doing flips and all that. He was feeling very dizzy and had some trouble sitting still. So he tried to lay down but it felt like he was falling and falling. Then he lost consciousness.

As soon as Scaag was asleep, Chiro got to work. She quickly drew up schematics for a new, larger, body using a hologram projector that overlaid the plans on top of his current one. She knew she couldn't change it drastically, so she made it to be about seven feet tall. This new body would include a much larger set of memory banks, better stability, and better processing power. It was also going to be a sturdier frame since the little mech had a tendency to bump into things as he painted. Once she was happy with the schematics, she went over and sat down in front of her computer and saved them for fabrication and generating the new firmware.
She pulled up Scaag's files and then promptly groaned. The files, software, firmware, and programs were disorganized and everything was a mess. She commented aloud to herself like usual when she worked in her personal lab.
"How in the world did this happen?"
Chiro dug a little deeper as she began to reorganize the files. While she did so, she began the process of generating firmware upgrades with a special program she made. It would generate the firmware changes based on how his current body was and how the new body was going to be. However, the program halted nearly immediately with a red warning. His overarching firmware had locked onto his explosive capabilities and there was no way the program could consolidate the differences. Upon examining the code and taking a look at his current body, she frowned. There really was no way she could remove the explosives from him without triggering a complete failure in either the hardware or the software side and either failure would result in killing the young mech.
Chiro shook her helm and then reworked the schematics to accommodate his explosive charge. She made sure it was going to be in a safe housing that wouldn't easily be damaged. With the updated hardware schematics finished, she got the firmware generation started for the new body once more and then went on to organize the other files.
She was about half-way done when she came across something familiar. It was a program file with the title "Age_and_Personality_Regulator". Curious, she pulled up the code for the program. She had only read a few lines of code before she felt like her spark stopped in her chest. She stared at the computer screen in shock and confusion.
"Dear Primus... I'm not dreaming, am I? Please, let this be a cruel nightmare I'll wake up from... Maybe my optics are malfunctioning..."
Chiro looked at the small body of Scaag before looking back at her computer screen. She double checked that she had pulled up Scaag's files and forced herself to continue reading through the code that was a part of Scaag. Her spark slowly became a mess of emotions as she read several personal comments in different parts of the code. It was what she did to prevent blatant plagiarism, but this time it was digging up the past.
//For the heck of it, and to give him some personality, he'll have a love for painting right from the start. My lab is a little dull.
// I wonder what the heads at Tagon Medical Center would think if I brought him to work one day. I'd have to make sure he didn't get in the way, though.
//Rumors are beginning to spread about a war. Despite these uprising and attacks, I'm hoping they're false. I don't want him growing up in a war-torn world.
//I wonder what the Twins would think if they met Caase…. If the chance ever arises -but at this point I highly doubt it ever will- I probably won't tell them that his name actually is short for Chiro's Autonomous Artificial Son Experiment.
The last comment hit Chiro hard. Caase was the A.I. son she had made for herself a long, long time ago. He started out as an experiment, to see if an A.I. that was born with the mindset of a sparkling could "grow up" like a normal Cybertronian. When Casse was "born", he almost immediately became more than an experiment, he was her son and she loved him as such. Though as part of the experiment, she was going to upgrade his hardware to match his "age". She had all kinds of plans for the two of them as mother and child.
Plans that burned.
Chiro's plans ended when she found Caase's broken body among the rubble of her lab after an attack -which would be one of many on her lab during the war. Her spark was shattered when she couldn't revive him. Her processor was frantic when she couldn't find the bi-monthly backup disk. In the end, she had lost Caase and there was nothing she could do about it.
Her world had fallen apart then and it came crashing at her now. Discovering the code led to painful memories flooding through her processor, reminding her of everything she wanted to forget. Tears streamed down from her optics as she sat there, staring at the code before her, reading the final comment over and over again like a broken record.
"No… I didn't share Caase's code with... with anyone…. How… How did Skyspray get a hold of this…?!"
Chiro closed her optics and put her helm in her servos. Her processor was all over the place now and her spark ached. But the process of upgrading Scaag needed to be completed. Pushing everything away for the time being, in an almost purely robotic state Chiro finished organizing Scaag's files and upgraded his firmware. She then used a special machine to fabricate most of the parts for his new body as she hand made the finer detailed pieces. But the emotions began to persist. In the back of her processor, she was still trying to come to grips with the fact that Scaag was originally Caase. But the Caase she knew was gone.
"No, he… he's still my son… He may have another name, but he's still… he's still Caase at the core... "
With a little more emotion put into her work, she finished putting together Scaag's new body by carefully replacing each part that was being upgraded -his arms, legs, and chassis- around the old ones that were staying -namely his processor, memory banks, and explosives. And then another thought hit her as she finished upgrading Scaag by installing the upgraded firmware. Initially, she had begrudgingly adopted Scaag, having done so mostly out of pity for the young mech. Which meant she -in essence- resisted re-claiming her own son.
The thought was almost too much to bear as she sat back down and looked at the young mech. His new body was similar in height and stature as it was way back then. Did she know subconsciously that he was Caase all along, in her spark? She couldn't answer her own question as she just sat there, sorting through her emotions, waiting for nothing as she hadn't brought him out of shutdown yet.
Finally, she shook her helm and wiped away the tears. Her processor cleared up as she decided firmly on what her spark wanted all along.
"No more tears. Today is supposed to be a happy day. Scaag is still Caase, he just has a different name now. He is still my son..."
A smile slowly appeared on her face as she let a revelation take a hold of her processor and spark.
"Thank Primus! I have my child again!"
Chiro quickly double checked everything was connected properly physically and that all of his software and firmware was correct. She then initialized his system to come out of maintenance mode and boot up with his new body. Both nervous and excited now, she patiently waited for him to awake.
