The Kalahari Desert covers most of Botswana and a small section of Namibia in South Africa and extends into Angola, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The nearest Airport is Johannesburg International Airport. People usually prefer to go to the Kalahari Desert via roadways from either of these three countries: Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe. The Kalahari Desert covers an area of 900,000 square kilometers (350,000 square miles). The vast space has a variety of landscapes including red sands and grasslands although the majority of the desert is dry and arid.

The desert was vast, a seemingly endless plane of sand and dust kicked up by the winds in an empty land. To most the Kalahari was a sight of natural wonder largely untouched by humanity, but ultimately an endless plane of nothing. They where humans though, and could not see the reality of the Kalahari hidden underneath the sand, an unclaimed energy hummed invitingly to those who could feel it.
Shadow-Strike, the Decepticon assassin was one such individual who could feel the energy underneath as he stood in the sun, his back facing a small cavern that didn't look entirely natural despite the Decepticons attempts to do so. Behind him within the cavern more than a dozen Decepticon miners had been employed, and after setting up a makeshift base had began proceeding down into the sand for the power source underneath. Scans of the terrain had shown that the heavily compact sand seemed to deviate around two miles below, a measurement that seemed to correspond with the estimates of where the power source originated from. So for the last few hours the Decepticon miners had worked from late night into the early day in an attempt to reach the source, until finally...
"Sir, we found something." Announced a vehicon from behind Shadow-Strike as his eyes traced the sky and the land with a careful glare. For a moment he remained unresponsive to the deceleration, as though too focused on the task at hand before he tilted his head in a nod of acknowledgement. When he did decide to speak however his words where calculated, slow and deliberate. "And what exactly did you find C-12?"
"A metal hull. Our scans suggest a vault or a prison, information suggests it's at least as old as the age of expansion." The vehicon stated simply as Shadow-Strike began to turn around, his optics roaming over the footsoilder's form before stepping past on his way deeper into the cavern. In truth the cavern didn't look remotely natural once within, as the metal construct hidden from outside with optical camouflage and a number of complementary anti-espionage tech was deactivated inside.
Now reaching what seemed to be a mineshaft at the centre of the cavern, hanging over a large hole Shadow-Strike stepped in quickly followed by the trailing vehicon as the assassin continued the discussion. "I was already informed of such. We knew whatever the structure was it's Cybertronian or something, very, very similar. Have we been able to disable the groundbridge jammer?"
"No sir. The technology isn't advanced, but creating a counter without access to the physical jammer is largely impossible. We're lucky that the jammer only extends a mile down we should be able to call in reinforcements when required." Informed the vehicon as he entered and pushed the command switch that sent the elevator descending downwards at seemingly ridiculous speeds.
"Good." Shadow-Strike stated before the two fell into an easy quiet that lasted until the elevator suddenly stopped arriving at it's destination. It's open cart providing a view of the structure they had found. In truth it wasn't an overly impressive sight, not because of it's size (because by all means it was a enormous structure in it's entirety) but rather that the floor they stood on was all that could be seen. The cavern around it a similar size to the one above didn't even shown off a hundredth of the structure. What could be considered more impressive however was the mining laser that had been hastily constructed and now took over a fourth of the cavern. It's massive form having been gradually shipped down in pieces before it was reconstructed and ready to begin piercing the hull.
"Are we ready to enter?"
"At your command."
"Begin." He said, as the laser activated with a blinding light and a overwhelming warmth that seemed to threaten burning everyone in the cavern alive.
OOC : THIS ROLEPLAY IS OPEN TO ANYONE. AS A NOTICE THE POWERSOURCE CANNOT BE HIDDEN AND SO ANYONE CAN FIND THE AREA, HOWEVER IT ISN'T POSSIBLE TO GROUNDBRIDGE INTO THE STRUCTURE WHILE THE JAMMER IS ACTIVE. THE DECEPTICON OUTPOST CAN ALSO BE FOUND, BUT PLEASE DON'T FIND IT IN A SINGLE POST.

For a moment the cavern was bathed in a bright red light that seemed to envelop the world, with a sickening heat following that would turn a humans body to mush. The Decepticons made of metal and equipped for the heat however fared better as they stood far away from the path of the beam. In most cases the laser, originally designed for piercing through the metal terrain of Cybertron and further improved throughout the ages, would have pierced the structure in a similar display to a hot knife through butter. Instead the laser rushed forward only to come face to face with a wash of light that glowed a burning orange reminiscent of thermo-energon technology. It's blazing glory defined a valiant shield that covered the grey metal underneath in a sight that seemed unpenetrable.

A groundbridge opens in the desert, neary the energy signature. The first one through is Vating, Autobot drill sergeant. He has his rifle raised as he moves out, givinf enough room for the others to come through.
"Well... This looks interesting."

Whitewash walks through, "If you'll excuse my cynicism, I'm not built to handle 'interesting'," she informs him, looking around. She bends over and runs the red sand through her fingers, "Reminds me of home, if there wasn't all this vegetation around."
Unlike Vating, she hasn't drawn any of her weapons.

In a combat scenario the vault would have been impenetrable, it's shield even eons later still powerful enough to resist the full strength of a mining laser for hours. Now though the vault was inactive, it's systems running on backup with only the shielding providing a defence for it's interior. As a result whereas in the past experimental weapon placements would deploy and eradicate the weapon currently trying to pierce through it's shields, instead the laser attack was unimpeded.
So as the laser continued it's unending assault for over a day of use, till the point it's casing burned a dangerous glow and the cavern thrummed with energy, eventually something broke. Like a plane of glass impacting with a cannonball, the barrier shattered. It's thermo-energon structure flickering for a moment before splintering apart away from the origin point of the strike, then before the shield could regroup and restrengthen the light melted straight through the infinitely more fragile hull. Armour plating comparable to that of a warship ultimately proving itself vulnerable to the makeshift breaching device which easily cut a cybertronian sized hole without the power of it's shields.
A moment later however the shields had regained their strength, but without the metal hull to shape its efforts the thermo-energon that covered the hole was significantly weaker. Still it was enough to prevent the decepticons surrounding the breach to step closer. At least until in a movement that was sharp yet eerily fluid, Shadow-Strike flicked his right servo from chest height down to a rest position signalling for the laser to be deactivated. The vehicons used to following the mech's orders along many other Decepticons where quick to comply, deactivating the laser before Shadow-Strike silently pointed at one of them and then the breach.
For a moment the vehicon who was pointed out looked unwilling to comply before a glare quickly rectified the issue. With slow and unsure movements the drone moved forward, the possibility of death facing him from behind in the form of an assassin and the fading thermo-energon that covered the hole in the floor. Eventually though in seconds the vehicon stood aside the hole before he stepped forward, only to find himself falling, the shield inactive without a presence to defend itself against as he landed in the darkness below. Only a flickering 'healthy' sign on the visor of the Decepticon squad leader confirmed his survival as the others stepped closer to the breach.
"G-6." The dark frame figure called out as he glided towards the entrypoint, his blood-red optics narrowed into the darkness. The pitch black making it impossible to penetrate with even night vision as his helm rose to look back up towards the mining laser. "Ensure it isn't put to use by our enemies. Guard it."
With a nod one of the mech's stepped back leaving the others around the hole before Shadow-Strike nodded to one, their signal to dive through, followed by another and another until only he and G-6 remained. "Activate responder protocols." The mech commanded before he stepped forward, his body falling into the darkness almost in a elegant glide as he heard the others land, allowing him to time his thrusts to decelerate his landing. With little more than a tap he landed in the darkness.

Post by Sparkflare on Apr 3, 2017 22:03:47 GMT
Sparkflare was the next one to exit the swirling portal. He looked around as he crossed his arms while he waited for the others to exit the bridge. He looked down at Whitewash as she ran her hands through the sand. It was interesting to hear her say this reminded her of the Sea of Rust.
"I've never been to the Sea of Rust before. I've only seen the Sonic Canyons from Nyon however. I heard there was many artifacts left there by the ancients."
Upon hearing Whitewash saying she wasn't built for handling interesting, Sparkflare reached behind his back and brought out his Photon Disruptor and presented it Whitewash. Sparkflare also took the time to press his Autobot insignia with his free hand. As soon as the mech pressed the insignia, the mechs colour scheme of his paint and LEDs began to change to a colour scheme that would better suit Sparkflare in the desert environments. This was a scouting mission, so it would be best if Sparkflare dressed for the occasion.
"If you don't do 'interesting', take this. It's my Photon Disruptor. Its a shotgun. Sadly I haven't been able to successfully use this weapon to disrupt photons. But scaring people with the name is possible."

"But it's dangerous to-" Wbitewash sighs and accepts the Photon Disruptor from Sparkflare, "You know with this I'm actually more likely to get shot, if there is something in there?"
She fumbles to holster the shotgun cleanly.
"You should never give a weapon to somebody unless you're sure they know how to use it," she lectures Sparkflare. But she doesn't actually give the gun back.
"You see? You're starting to remember already!" she tells Hydraxion.

WheelSpin left the GroundBridge glancing around. One of his servos had been replaced by the null ray, the other with a somewhat more lethal weapon. The black paint on his frame was soaking up the light, making the metal hot to touch. After a quick scan of their surroundings and spotting no immediate danger he relaxed a little and took a few steps closer to the team. Sand.
He didn't say anything but he certainly would have preferred a location with less of that. "So.... what are we looking for?" He made a mental note to work on his paint once he was back. a much lighter option, whether white or beige, would probably suit him well, when in an environment such as the present. Sure he could install a hologram instead, which would allow him to have any colour whatsoever, but those could be disrupted. His current colouration would gradually return to its original state, but ...a good amount of time still needed to pass before that happened.
He glanced at Whitewash, a new face he only remembered seeing at the control room. "Well.. just remember. When you get fired at, make yourself as small a target as you can, and ...when you do fire, make sure none of us are standing in front of you." There was a short pause as he seemed to evaluate her size and what it could afford her. "Don't engage the enemy at close range. Leave that to us." Or some of the other, bigger Autobots.

Vating sighed at Whitewash's complainimg and began moving towards the energy sigmature.
"Just stay behind me and you'll be fine."
He was wary of the predacon, unsure if the guy was legitimate still and was sure never to let that leave his processors.

"I don't think it is too hard to aim and pull a trigger at something, so I'm sure you'll manage to figure it out. Just don't stand in the middle of the line of fire."
Sparkflare said, replying to the lecture Whitewash gave him. She said she wasn't built for interesting, so Sparkflare gave her something to deal with it. The mech glanced at Hydraxion and then at Whitewash. If Hydraxion had a memory problem, the Autobots should be cautious around him since- worst case senario- Hydraxion could be one of the warriors elite of all things and if he regained his memories, Sparkflare doubted that if Hydraxion regained his memories, he wouldn't be so friendly. Sparkflare then saw that Vating started to move towards the enegy signature. Considering Vating didn't make any clear command to move, Sparkflare raised an arm and pointed in the direction Vating was moving. This was more to gain the attention of Whitewash and Hydraxion if they were too busy chittering and chattering with each other. Once making the montion, Sparkflare followed Vating in moving towards the energy signature.
"Since you were the one to assemble this group, it would make sense if you are in charge of this operationi- that is if you are willing to lead."

"Whatever it is you plan to lead us to," Whitewash adds after Sparkflare.
She looks over Vating's shoulder at the scanner, "It doesn't look far off... but it's also underground. I've read of vast underground lakes in this desert; the largest on this planet. Who knows? Perhaps it's got something to do with those."

Vating nodded to Sparkflare, he was honestly surprised that the higher ups weren't taking control of this operation. He felt his spark skip a beat at this surprise, though quickly recovered to his usual incredibly serious self.
"Thank you for the opportunity, sir. I'll be sure to do the Autobots proud."
In all honesty, he chose half the team, and one of those wasn't even in his original plan. The other tqo volunteered themselves, so hopefully this would work out. He glanced at Whitewash and took into account what she had to say, making note of the possibility of an undergrouns lake.
"Maybe... Once we get in sight, it'll be easier to tell."
With that, he continued onward towards their goal.

WheelSpin followed the sergeant, covering the area more to the left of him. He could have raced ahead and returned with news, but there hadn't been an order demanding that of him and the road/ground wasn't very suitable for his set of tyres and height of them vs the rest of his 'alt' frame. On the contrary the thick tyres that were part of his pedes were actually being more useful than if it had just been metal parts sticking into the sand.
So far other than the signal that had been noticed earlier, not much could be picked up on the scanner. "Could be something over there." He indicated the direction. It was really a 50/50 guess. Either the slightly off formation just appeared slightly off and there was another, elsewhere that was the one they should be reaching. Or it actually was slightly off because it was not natural. Getting closer would have them know for sure. They were going vaguely in that direction anyway.

"I do hate to state the blindingly obvious," Whitewash speaks up, "But that's a cave," she points, "And those look like Vehicon tracks entering it. It seems that mindless Decepticon drones drones have detected this abnormal energy signature and are already here."

Vating nods to Whitewash, and looks down at the pair of Decepticons.
"That'd be it probably... If there are Cons here then that probably means it's important. Get ready for approach. We don't want to be spotted, so Wheelspin, drive around and get to flanking. We'll perform a pincer maneauver and then move in."

"Yes Sergeant." While his voice was rather charming and pleasant, he was feeling anything but, about the idea of him driving in that arid terrain. Never the less he transformed quickly, lifting up some of the sand as he did. He turned in the direction which he was asked to go around. Had his engine rev up nicely, if at least careful not to be too loud, threw up more sand, as his tyres struggled for a grip for a moment and then he was gone.
Whoever was unfortunate enough to have stood behind him when he took off (which since he turned away from them, would probably include a good few of them) would be doused with a generous amount of sand, while even some others, standing nearby would not have been fully spared.

"To bad I am- or anyone else here to my knowledge- not equipped with a sniper rifle. Would've been a lot easier."
Sparkflare stated as crounched down, examining the tracks that Whitewash had pointed out. He was the designated sniper of the Wreckers when he signed up. Granted nothing really happened during that time with the Wreckers. It was a shame in all honesty. The thought of the Wreckers quickly faded away. Now was not the time to start reminiscing over the past. He nodded when Vating announced that they were going to go for a pincer maneauver. Sparkflare continued at examining the tracks. He could see more than the others. Whitewash was not wrong in identifying the tracks as vehicons. But there was other tracks. Tracks that he didn't recongnise. He didn't speak of it however. Probably just another Decepticon. Nothing too important.
