Kickstart has a point there, as well. In a species that doesn't really age outside of encroaching decrepitude as a result of starvation, maturity has a huge impact on where Transformers sort of.... Settle, insofar as mental age goes.

This is what happens when you put too much thought into transformer babies... Why not just have it so when a new spark is born, they have an aging rate faster than humans and as they mature are upgraded to new, larger bodies periodically? Then when they reach "adulthood" they get a permanent body fitting their personality.
5+ months seems like a little much. Why not two? Or one? At a rate of 5+ someone who plays a sparkling wouldn't even be able to do really anything for like two years irl.

Or maybe their bodies just grow...? Switching bodies just to grow up is, imo, a dumb concept.
As far as I'm concerned, there are three ways for a Cybertronian to be created.
Coldcast: The robot is created from a pre-built body and the spark-fragments of several robots grown together in a petri-dish. This is how Vehicons, protectobots, etc are made.
Forged: The bot emerges from the well of allsparks, also in a fully-formed body.
Sparked: The bot' is created by the sparkmerging of two consenting 'bots. One or the other, typically the female if there IS a female involved, ends up with a sort of spark "bud" inside of them, which eventually gestates into a tiny little new-born bot, which rapidly grows into a larger body.

Well, growing metal isn't much better. Why not just upgrading the body their in? Like, making it bigger and giving it more features. I think that's how it was on TFU cause I remember Riptide getting an upgrade when he was young.

It's established that Transformer heal and change automatically over time, not to mention parts of them can flex and meld like organic flesh. Them growing in youth is not a stretch at all.

Think about your computer. When you get it, it's shiny new, except for that foul piece of crap called Windows 8 that won't go away.
Then you start downloading programs and games one by one. Until finally it's a grown-up computer! But eventually you'll have all the programs you really need on it, and stop, except for the occational patch.
