Millions of years of constant civil war have torn and shredded the landscape of Cybertron. What was once shiny and chrome-plated, is now little but a wreckage of twisted and dull metal, with dark energon crystals jutting from the planet's shell. Rust sweeps over most of the land, a result of the Sea of Rust's expansion due to the planet's devastation. The birthplace of the Cybertronians is nothing more than a shattered hunk of metal, floating through space, corrupted by Dark energon. Or at least, it was.
With the activation of the Allspark, Cybertron's revival was kickstarted - rebooting the planet to a state before it was poisoned. Though it remains a shell of it's former glory, energon flows from the planet's core, a sign that the planet is beginning to repair itself - albeit slowly. Large wastelands have begun to recede, whilst destroyed, monolithic cities are returned to their prior pristineness, though at a marginal rate. The production of naturally ocurring Energon is just as sluggish, meaning that if both Cybertron and the returning Cybertronians are to survive, more energon must be found elsewhere.
The slow revival process has still left something to be desired from the planet. The Dark energon corruption, whilst not as threatening as it once was, still plagues certain regions of Cybertron. Here, the zombified corpses of the long dead lurk, lying in wait to turn more people into terrorcons. Similarly, vast areas of rust also remain prominent among the landscape, and whilst not as far spanning as they were when Cybertron was abandoned, these "rust spots" are still scattered across the planet's surface, forming large and desolate wastelands.
