Intro
So with Pokémon Go kinda bringing the adorable creatures back into my life, I figured the time was good to give one of these a try. So how we going to do this I hear you ask? Well, turn your AU pamphlets to page 3, as the first two just contain a foreword from Nicholas Cage, and I'll show you.
So basically, this will not be taking place in any canon region, but instead, the Ekkon Region. Ekkon has a varied landscape, from the freezing cold Jacknife Mountains to the hundred-foot tall canopy of the Greatwood, Hightower City to the sprawling Ohnsear Desert and so on. But to you, your little adventure starts in Redrock City, the place where all people come to obtain their Pokémon License, and their first Pokémon.
This RP is gonna be a bit different, as it's gonna be done with a DM system. For those who don't know, that means the DM, or Dungeon Master (namely me) controls the NPCs and the dice rolls (we'll get to that). There's no posting order for this, but what will happen is every time the DM posts, the people involved will have a set amount of time to respond to any and all attacks made against them, and if you don't respond promptly without letting us know beforehand that you will be unable to do so, anything done against you is considered a guaranteed success. No way to dodge, no exceptions.
If you are unable to do so for IRL reasons, say so and We can have you removed from the thick of the trouble. Once all active players have replied to the DM post, I'll post a new one. You can reply in any order you wish, so it is less of a post order than elsewhere, and hopefully will be better suited to keeping interest so no-one is waiting too long for a habitual laggard.
As a side note, if you are skipped three times in any situation, you'll be auto-removed from the fight somehow, be it from all your Pokémon being defeated, separated from the group, or possibly knocked out yourself (that can happen in this thing, watch yourself). For the sake of ease, each person must only post ONCE between DM posts.
The players will be travelling together in a group, the story will aid this, so don't worry about that. This means everyone will be able to interact with everyone else, but ganging up on fights is just gonna make me want to make things very difficult (all hail the power of the DM!). Everyone will get their chance in the spotlight, but unless outnumbered, don't try to overwhelm opponents 4-on-1 fights. Bad guys might try to do that, but that'll be because there are obstacles to others helping, not just pulling a bigger number.
Now onto the good bit, the Pokémon.
To put it simply, the Pokémon you encounter, be they wild or under the grasp of a trainer, will be randomised. I have a random number generator and a list of Pokémon by their Pokedex number. The Pokémon the number corresponds to will be the one you face, and it'll have appropriate moves and such depending on the line-up the players have. You may encounter more than one Pokémon at once, which I'll decide based on the state of the story. Usually these'll be individually weak Pokémon in a large group to overwhelm with numbers, and may be all rolled separately. So you may end up meeting a group where every Pokémon is different, or a group consisting largely or totally of one kind of Pokémon, who knows? (the answer is me, I will always know ).
For the players, each will get one starter. This Pokémon will be decided at random in groups of three. WE aren't sticking to the usual starters, It can be any with some exceptions (I'll get to that in a second). When I draw the numbers, you'll have three Pokeballs in front of you. The numbers drawn are ordered by first drawn from left to right, but you will not know what it is, so you won't know what you get until you open that Pokeball for the first time. So you could get a Bulbasaur, a Sentret, a Skiddo, or even a Dratini! If the number lands on an evolved form, it'll be devolved to it's first stage. So if your number lands on a Pikachu, it gets devolved to a Pichu. Ones with no evolutions will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
The Pokeballs will be chosen on a first come-first served basis. Once the first three are done, another three are rolled and so on, until every active player has a starter. Levels aren't used in this RP per se, but your Pokémon will be get stronger as they grow and battle with you. Evolutions will be decided when your Pokémon reaches a certain level of maturity or as the story dictates. Each Starter will have a set of moves they can use in the games, enough to give you some versatility off the bat and it's not just Tackle all the time. As a side note, the four-move restriction doesn't apply here, your Pokémon won't forget moves they learn through any means, but learning new moves will be tougher as there is no set level to learn them.
Before I go further, I should stress Legendaries are not going to be obtainable, under any circumstances. They exist in this region, but if you encounter one (which is unlikely), it'll take everything you have to get out with your limbs intact. Legendaries rolled for Starters will be rerolled, encounters will be decided on a case-by-case. Mot likely, Legendaries will not be discovered until later, when the players have some experience and power under their belt. Legendaries won't be spawned if the group involved isn't ready for them, but be warned, these will be very tough battles and you will not leave these without some serious damage.
Now for the big question, how do you catch a Pokémon? When a DM post from me says you have encountered a wild Pokémon, you must first claim your desire to catch it. This is first come-first served, so if you want a Pokémon but someone else claims it before you, tough. When someone claims a Pokémon, I can work towards making it less likely to outright faint and be capturable, at which point I will say so in another DM post. No special Pokeballs or capture rates here, you throw a ball, you try to catch. I will decide if the Pokémon is weakened sufficiently to be captured. If successful, that Pokémon will be added to your team, but will still be injured. Get dat Pokémon to a Pokémon Center stat!
The normal Team limit of 6 is applied, but there are no Boxes in this game. If you have a full team, you will not be allowed to capture any other Pokémon. Now I know what you're thinking, how will you be able to change out your team I you want to roll the dice again right? Well fear not, there will be opportunities in the course of the RP to offload a Pokémon in your team. Maybe someone offers something for a certain Pokémon in your team, maybe your Pokémon finds it's brethren in the wild, options will present themselves as the RP goes on.
On the subject of items. Ones that induce evolution, like Thunder Stone, Kings Rock etc. will still be there and can be found in the course of the RP, but since stats are not a concern here, other items won't be involved for the sake of simplicity. Items that have other effects and evolution effects will only retain there evolution effects.
Character App
So now we get to the good part, the app. If you're interested in this AU, fill out the form below. Once a good amount of players have signed up we'll start. If you join after the initial start, you'll meet up with the group with your starter as the story permits.
Name:
Gender:
Age:
Physical Description: (Image also works)
Personality:
Clothing: (You may also use an image here if you prefer)
History: (Just a couple paragraphs, no need to go too wild here)
Pokémon: (When you get Pokémon, it'll be better for all if you update this section with your current team. If preferred, I can provide links to use animated gifs to represent your Pokémon visually).
And that is everything for now. Any questions you wanna ask, do so here and I'll do my best to answer them. The DM system hasn't been used here in a while, so I'm interested to see if it'll hold water. Until then, happy Pokémon hunting!
