"That's a good question," Gox could sense Hotwire sifting through the thoughts, in order to give him the most accurate answer. She clearly liked a little philosophy with her honesty.
Nobody really owns me, so it's definitely not the first one. It's something like the second one, I suppose... But a light at the end of the tunnel? That's a funny way of putting it...
"If there was no war, I wouldn't have a job," she told him finally, "But at the same time, nobody would be insistent that I had to choose them over another side. That would be nice, I expect."
Ultimately, money can't buy you freedom. Somebody will always try to take it from you, even when you have a receipt. But it can rent you freedom from dependence.
There was a pause, and then she spoke, and her words merged perfectly with her thoughts.
"A mercenary lives their life knowing that just like their Marks, they need to be more valuable alive than dead."

Sounds like you know what you're doing. You don't have too many friends I can guess. Gox replied, unaware of where the three were heading. So far all he could tell was that they were flying north-west.
Gox remained silent for a little bit, as he let Hotwire adjust some more to this temporary bondage. The friends you do have--what are their names, specifically? Gox asked, he was sure that Hotwire had somebody else to talk to, since she appeared not be so bad on the inside. then again, the spider took a guess that either way, the femme was a mercenary and she had said that other people thought she was some sort of monster.

No!
He yelled as the feeme made off with Helix in tow. He waa about to try and follow when he was struck down from behind. Riptide grunted and fell into the snow. He could feel the energon leaking out of the new gash in his back. He had been a fool and took his optics off his opponent. Rip lifted his optics from the snow and watched as Hotwire flew away with Helix.
I'm sorry Helix.
Riptide said under his breath. He growled and placed his servos palm down on the ground. He pushed upwards and forwards, tucking and rolling away from Shadow. He took one last look at the mech before calling for a groundbridge. There was no reason to fight the mech now.
The groundbridge opened a moment later and Riptide walked through.
((Hey, sorry for the quick exit Shadow, but I won't be very active these next two days and so I didn't want to get fully engaged in a fight then not respond for a while.))

"Friends? Oh, of course I have friends..." Hotwire started to rattle off a list of the names of people she had met.
Of course, because of their mental link, Gox was instantly aware that she was lying. They were just the names of a few of her repeat business partners.
He could also sense the deep feeling of shame that resonated from her at how he had just correctly guessed. It wasn't that she didn't want friends; the assumptions people made of her didn't make it easy, and she had resigned herself to doing without them.

Lifting his helm up towards where Hotwire had retreated Shadow-Strike considered chasing her for his target, it wasn't the first time their plans had interlined. He figured it could just be a coincidence but as he began to pace back onto the road Shadow-Strike considered learning a little more, there was always more to learn even when you knew so much about a person. Lowering onto his hands and knees Shadow-Strike began to transform as parts shifted around his body till his tyres hit the ground and his body work began to fit into place.
Then he was off the black and red dodge challenger driving away into the distance past lines of trees, maybe it was time Shadow-Strike looked to see if it was just the prices that drove the femme. As for that mech Riptide he could always finish him off another day, the mech had been wise to run after such a mistake was made. Once you made one on the battlefield it was common for others to follow.

Gox felt a pang of sorrow for hotwire as he began to realise how she seemed to lack any friends at all--and how she really just seemed to be a loner, doing her job and all that. He didn't really notice what was going on outside of her body because of how sucked into the conversation he was. The shame in her made him realise that indeed this bounty hunter was very much a person too, ad had more feelings then what she had maybe given other people to think. Okay. Gox just said blankly. Since they were bonded at the moment, Hotwire could sense some pity from Gox, coming in small blips of emotion, and then he piped up about something else.
So, where are we taking your prey exactly? Hide-out? Gox questioned again. The helicopter was moving pretty fast, thanks to his upgrading of her. It would be difficult for other to keep up with the two. The small spider wondered if this giant war was just bringing out the worst of everyone. How many others were like Hotwire? Gox wondered. Hmm. Bond can only work so long before it's parting time. This does take some energy out of me. Phew.

I don't have a hide-out right now, Hotwire was headed south into the Rhine Valley, I'm going to make one. I just want to try something out...
Gox could hear Hotwire's Scatter Blaster charging. Then she fired at a cliff face.
The Scatter Blaster was designed to be fired at small-to-mid-sized buildings. Thanks to Gox's upgrade to her body, the shot made a hole in the cliff now the size of a mid-sized building. It was in a position almost impossible for anybody without a hovering alt to get into. If you didn't have a hovering alt, you'd need to climb in with your bi-pedal mode.
"That went well!" she landed in the cave - the stone was still melting and cooling - and dropped Helix to the floor, "Thanks Gox! This will make a great temporary base."
She continued in her head, I'll be selling Helix from here and then deliver him to the highest bidder. I bet his parents would pay a whole scrapton to keep him out of Con hands.
She could sense Gox getting tired, "You can take a rest now," she added.

*Helix yelps and transforms when he hits the ground. Turning into his wolf mode as his limbs and body movements were still frozen.*
"You won't get away with this!"

"Then why has it worked so many times before?"
Hotwire shoved Helix into a massive cell set into the solid rock, and opened up her merc broadcasting system to anybody who might be listening.
"Message for any important rich people. Hey, any important rich people hanging around there?"
The image of Hotwire, the red and white rotorcraft, flashed onto the screen. It was impossible to determine her location, because she was standing in a newly-made cave, "Ladies and gennelmen, I am currently in possession of a limited edition Transformer mech. Hey, look!"
She stood aside, showing that behind her was a white and blue predacon wolf in a very large cage.
"Bidding is also open to curious Human Scientists and any passing alien races. Bidding starts on Evil-Bay in- hey, don't look at me like that!" she told the wolf.

*The EMP wore off and Helix slowly got up on his feet. Barking wildly at her.*
"YOU GLITCH! YOU GLITCH! MY FATHER WILL GUT YOU!"

"Why? I haven't done anything to you," Hotwire turned away from the screen, where Gearchange was busily philosophising about slavery, and switched it onto 'auto-bid'.
"Seriously," she continued with a smile, "If Shadsy had grabbed you, you'd be in the devil of a lot of trouble. As it is, you've got a few bumps and bruises and your parents have the perfect opportunity to get you back safe and sound. What is the deal?!"

Helix couldn't actually find a way of arguing with that. She actually had a point. That dark mech wanted him for something, Primus knows what though.
"Maybe you have a good point..."

"Your father doesn't feel like entering the bidding. He speaks of the value of life being worth more than currency and yes, yes, I get his point but others are rather inclined to disagree. You're your father's son. If the cons take you, they'll use you as bait. And there are obviously lots of people who want to experiment on the silicon intelligence and when it comes to them, I'd take the Cons myself."
She rubbed her face.
"I know it doesn't feel like it, but I'm not your enemy, Helix."

Hotwire hesitated, "I'm just a merc," she sighed, "I don't have enemies. And I suppose you'll feel better to know that I don't have friends either."
She sat down on a large rock, "This is my life, kid. Freedom is a fickle thing."

"And you've got a family what loves you and a place to go where you don't have to look over your shoulder, and people who don't call you a monster."
Hotwire wrapped her arms around herself as she listened to the ongoing bidding, then looked up at Helix.
"What's it like to have a family, anyway?"

"Depends really. Having a twin sister was a bit of a nightmare as a kid, always snapped and fought, but being half Predacon, my mum encouraged it for 'healthy development skills'. I mean, it is nice, knowing you always have a home to fall back on, a warm dog bed."
*He jokes about the dog bed part as his wolf mode looked more wolf-hound like.*
"Mother nags you, dad expects stuff of you. I admit. I never met his expectations, that's why he had another son I think."

"Doesn't sound how I imagined," Hotwire told him. There was a pause, "Sounds much nicer."
There was a pause as she contemplated her own family... killing each other was their primary family activity, and her trying to stop them was her primary purpose.
"I hope it works out for your family, one way or another," she told him calmly.

"It is. I have two sons myself, so I hope I can be a good father. And thanks, Hotwire is it?"
*Helix looks up with puppy eyes.*
----------------------------------------------------
*Quite some distance away. Feenix steps out of the groundbridge in her bird mode, sniffing the air like mad.*
