BASICS

Designation : Graphene (of the Terracostan Plateau)----- ----- ----- ----- -----
Nicknames: 'Graph,' 'GA'
Gender : mech
Faction : factionless
Occupation : aerospace engineer (specifically, ship mechanic; Cybertronian and other), (former) junior archivist, (novice) quantum mechanic
Personality :
Graphene looks at the world with an attitude of placid reasoning and enthusiastic inquisitiveness. His primary mode of living is focused internally, where he deals with things rationally and logically. Juxtapositionally, his secondary mode is external, where he takes things in via his senses in a literal, concrete fashion.
As a workaholic, his passion for ships and aerospace technology permeates every aspect of his life. Everything from casual conversation to down-time reading old ship schematics is fed into his job. Years of experience has given him uncanny skill in his profession, and he’s motivated by the sense of personal achievement he derives from performing his duties well. People who take an interest in his work are immediately endearing to him, in which case he becomes more inclined to socialize on a regular basis; sharing his accomplishments with others makes him feel accomplished. It’s deeply satisfying when he can take pride in his work and see the effect it has on others.
Unlike his work, he finds interpersonal relationships difficult to navigate. In discussions where the topic strays from his work, he becomes utterly lost and will sometimes fumble over his own words or unintentionally come across as arrogant or rude. Because of his social ineptitude- of which he’s fully aware- he most often tries to maintain an ineffectual attitude toward others in an effort to avoid developing meaningful relationships, which make him feel vulnerable and awkward for his inability to effectively express himself.

Equipment and Abilities
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
Weaponry :
grenade launcher
Description: A projectile launcher whose incendiary ammunition packs a big punch and has an area of effect, at the expense of accuracy. Incendiary cartridges can be exchanged with smoke grenades. The grenade launcher carries twelve cartridges at a time, and additional ammunition may be carried in body compartments on back, thighs, and hips.
shotgun
Description: Your average shotgun. Blasts have a wide spray, and are most effective at a short range. Rounds are incendiary, meant to deal maximum damage even to somewhat thicker armor.
Gadgets :
blowtorch (transformable; left hand), fire extinguisher (transformable; right hand), one wrench, several spray paint canisters, one (broken) data pad, two (normal) data pads, a couple of cleaning rags, one (retractable) holo-visor, two holo device interfaces, and a pair of bolt cutters
Description: Most of his tools are self explanatory; the wrench, spray paint canisters, cleaning rags, and bolt cutters need no further description. The blowtorch and fire extinguisher work hand in hand- literally, and figuratively. One is used to weld metals in his work, even the dense metals used for the outer hulls of ships, and the other is used to negate any potential hazards that might arise from a fire going out of control- even being useful against electrical fires.
The data pads in his possession are always on his person, tucked away safely in his side compartments. The two working data pads carry data bases with a complete record of the Terracostan ship model directory, as well as his personal notes on ships he's worked on in the past and concept designs he's come up with for new ship models. The broken data pad carries a cache of more personal information.
His holo-visor is built into his head, coming out at will and changing form according to his specifications in order to assist him with mechanical work, or in other cases, working as a heads-up-display (HUD) while piloting ships to increase his levels of perception. While it's operational, he's capable of seeing up to thirty degrees further to his left, and ninety degrees to his right. This additional perception was designed specifically with his major blind spot via lack of right optic in mind.
Holo device interfaces built into panels on both wrists and forearms are used to wirelessly connect to and control various pieces of mechanical equipment, whether it be a new gadget he's created to assist him in his work, or to make enhancements to his holo-visor and other equipment. It takes form in an expandable interactive holo display that only he can activate, and whose operational parameters were designed carefully to conform to his personal preferences. It is not able to interact with equipment created by other people unless he manually hacks it, or directly connects to it directly (see below).
Abilities : Direct mechanical interface
Description: Possesses the ability to directly interface with certain types of mechanical equipment. Consoles, computer terminals, and hardware with compatible interface relays can be connected to via cable- of which he has two; one in either wrist. While this is a suitable ability for someone with the mechanical skill which Graphene possesses, it is rarely successful, and usually in cases where he is intimately familiar with the type of technology being used (specifically, in starships), or where the technology is simple. If pitted against firewalls or security fail-safes, it is almost guaranteed to fail. If successful, however, the interfaced device can then be interacted with through his holo device interfaces.
OTHER

History : n/a
Strengths :
-The authority on all things starship-related. He has an in-depth knowledge, familiarity, and skill with many forms of aerospace equipment- starships, satellites and other surveillance equipment, weapons, etc. Along with this, he has an approximate knowledge of many things outside of aerospace engineering: record keeping, certain types of weapon technologies, armor and armament enhancements, and numerous other things- most mechanical.
-Good with critical thinking. Graphene is the one you'd want to be in charge in the case of a crisis. Excellent at delegating tasks according to functionality and ability, he shines when things go wrong and he can take a handle on the situation.
-A scrappy fighter who makes up for in strategic skill what he lacks in tactical ability. His weapons of choice are a demonstration of this, both covering key weaknesses- their area of effect and spray aspects making up for his poor aim, and for his need to move quickly between points of cover.
Weaknesses :
-Average armor that holds up only against a few light attacks before giving in. His durability leaves much to be wanted, making prolonged engagements undesirable.
-Socially awkward to the extreme. Doesn't make good friends easily, and when he does they're hard to keep. He's not easily trusting, and finds solitude preferable to the company of others.
-Cares more about others than himself. Even if it means becoming a martyr, he'd take any opportunity to help others that he sees- selectively. The only significant hindrance is a personal shortcoming; a deep prejudice against the factions for their war, and for the destruction of his home. He's conflicted about whether to help those involved in the war by joining the 'lesser of two evils,' or to oppose both of the irreparably biased groups indiscriminately.

"T'ch. Never understood 'em." He was talking to himself again, as he tended to do. "I tell 'em to run over to the the second deck to replace the maintenance console's third and fifth conduits and open the tertiary access panel to check for wire fray, and they don't even know to bypass the primary power cables between removing the old conduits and installing the new ones." It's not like it was rocket science. Starship science, maybe. Starship maintenance, even. 'Science'... well, it was less of an art, really. He supposed maybe not everyone was an 'artist' like he was. Graphene would just have to let it go, and do the repairs himself. It was looking to be another long day at work...
