BASICS
Designation : ShadowZone
Nicknames:
Gender : Mech
Faction : Autobot
Occupation : Stealth Operative, Aerial combat, Recon, Decoy, Scout, Security, Interceptor, Assassin, Transport, Warrior
Personality :
ShadowZone is normally quiet and composed. He is not known to loose his temper or show strong emotions. He is loyal to a fault due to his conditioning and will execute an order even if he disagrees with it. He usually does not question commands given to him but will offer a better course of action should it be required or needed. It isn't because he would blindly believe the orders to be sound but rather because orders are not to be questioned as the consequences would be undesirable. That and, he owes his life to the Prime, or at least that is what he remembers. The truth is quite different. While he may get bored when he is landlocked he does not voice his complaints. He does not know why, but he feels most at ease when he flies in confined spaces, such as canyons. He retains his teamwork preferences from his previous self, but unlike before he just appears colder and less interested in the grounders. The only one that he has full respect and feels complete loyalty to is the current Prime even with him being a non flier. Other than him, he will still assist fliers first, grounders second.
His feelings towards Decepticons are rather negative. Since he remembers their treatment of him, from beating him up within an inch of his life to the torture he allegedly was subjected to because of them, he sees no redeeming qualities in any coming from this faction. He also harbours a strong distrust towards Decepticons and their promises or claims.
APPEARANCE
Optic ( Eye ) Color : Orange
Primary Paint Color : Dark blue
Secondary Paint Color : Light blue
Third Color[Optional] : Silver/white
Height : 36 feet
Features:
Please put two Bullet Points listing notable features, a picture will account for this part of the app.
- List item 1: His current design is of cybertronian origin. It resembles a space jet and is capable of flight in space.
- List item 2: He has a visor that is usually stored part way in the upper section of his helmet. When lowered over his optics, it can provide them with some protection, while supplying the bot with visual data from his long range scanner.
Alternative Mode:
Bot mode: He has three sets of wings, two – largest – are the first pair one can see from the front. If he turns around, two additional sets of wings can be seen, which become smaller and smaller. They can lie flat against the big wings or can stand at an angle. The second pair that is larger first, the third pair, that is smaller would be closest to his cockpit at an almost 90 degree angle. He is capable of articulating with his wings as well, but usually chooses to keep them stiff and motionless. When entering confined spaces, his wings will be pulled back and against each other, to save space. His legs still take a role of turbines, while the landing gear is contained within his knees. This allows for a silent crawl, should he need to 'sneak about' anywhere. There are stabilizers on the back and side of his legs, while the cockpit remains at his chest. The glass has a faint orangish tint. His design is sleek, although it is capable of carrying heavy loads of weapons as well. There are additional thrusters set at his wings, while his turbines in his alt form allow for a direct vertical landing and take off. His ability to remain invisible has carried over from his old frame, with a few additional perks.
Armour: Some resistance to temperature based weapons (heat, cold). Espeically reinforced are the cockpit area, helm, visor, the largest of the wings and forearms. He also has a facemask that covers the area that the visor will not, when needed. Usually it is stored in his helm.
Alt Mode: Resembles a space jet, with weapons at the nose, between his vents (which are used when not in space) and at the tail. Also found on wings. Will provide image when done. Due to accidental Matrix upgrade, for which he was present in the medbay (done by Skyspray Prime to fix Diamond), he has obtained the ability for a second alt form which is just an Earth bound jet, this will be a modernized and improved version of the MiG 29 (MiG 35?).
-Image will be supplied when made-
Equipment and Abilities
Chameleon ability/invisibility: As said before, his ability to become invisible has carried over from his old frame with a few updates. The first one is, that while in use, his signature, spark, and Energon contained within cannot be spotted. The armour forms a sort of 'sensory' shield, that while keeping the body invisible by sight, also keeps it impossible to spot with other aids. Another perk is, that this ability can be powered by the sun which means that he is capable of 'hiding in plain sight' for much longer than he would have normally done. However the cloaking ability still requires a pretty good amount to function. This cannot be obtained via the 'sun cells' during the night or indoors. The amount obtained diminishes with cloudy weather or in a shade, and cannot be obtained during rain/fog/when the conditions are similar to as if he had been indoors. The 'sun cells' are situated on the big wings, which need to be exposed to the energy source, to recharge. The extent of damage to these cells will dictate the percentage of energy that they can collect and the speed of collecting it. If excessively damaged they are obviously useless. If the shield is in use while the energy is being collected it will mean that it can prolong the time before he needs to properly recharge, however it does not mean, it will prevent the loss of energy itself. The energy obtained is stored for the use of the shield. To replenish his own reserves by 30 percent he would have had to stay motionless, with cloaking ability down, in the full sun outside for at least 8 hours. It cannot replace proper Energon for long.
Of course, indoors he is limited by his own energy reserves (also those, recharged by his time outside in good sunny weather ). Further update comes in the way the invisibility functions, the clouds no longer cause it to stall, and the 'inner' program does a better job at masking him while in mid air. Of course, if he is damaged the areas that are damaged are harder to mask, while small scratches can be concealed, larger chunks missing cannot be.
Speed: His new turbines and thrusters have a much greater efficiency and boost to those he had previously. This allows him to achieve rather impressive speeds, however his chameleon ability, to save energy, will not function when those are obtained. The faster one goes also affects the distance one needs to come to a stop. While his turbines are capable of turning to slow him down faster, their heat discharge would damage/burn anybody in the way.
Silencing: Another advantage he has to his previous form, is the ability to silence his engines to a dull hum remeniscent of a running car engine. It is not a perfect and complete silence, but it can remain undetected in populated areas where traffic is not unknown. Of course in nature, it will still stand out from the more 'organic' sounds. His heat signature, when flying at normal speeds, is minimal, almost non existent. At much higher speeds, the heat signature is more noticable.
Weaponry :
Description:
Temporary signal neutralizers: Shot from the wrist, using only pressurized container, if shot in the right spot between plating can temporarily halt the transmission of signals to that part (5 posts made by affected player) It is fragile however, so it needs to enter between plating or else, it will simply break. Those tubes can be altered and replaced with pain inflicting nanotechnology, which opposite to the first, would actually cause various levels – depending of the content – of pain to the victim (these will be triggered to cause pain by the Autobot firing them. They can remain dormant until triggered. They can be temporarily neutralised by a null ray gun with the right setting or by permanently neutralised by a discharge of electricity directly into the affected bot. The current has to be strong enough to send the bot into statis however). This is being tested, as his upgrader wishes to see how useful they would be.
2 Blaster rifles: In bot form stationed 1 on each arm. Packing a medium strength punch. It can cause extensive damage to those of poor armour plating, and leave a small dent on those with a strong level armour. Usually used in medium to close range. The closer range will make the damage greater compared to the same shot being fired at a greater range. The two are also mounted on his alt form on the sides of the cockpit and would do their best to shoot enemies down.
2 Railguns: Best for long distance use. These guns fire kinetic energy penetrator rounds at very high velocity - hypersonic speed. They cause damage both due to their speed and the energy, due to this an explosion is caused at impact. The downside of this weapon is that it takes several seconds to recharge after each round. Used as secondary weapon as 1 on each arm. Usually stored away while ShadowZone is in alt form, although they can take the place of the blaster rifles.
Cybertronian machine gun: Spews high velocity Armour piercing shells at the enemy five times as fast as the human version would. Limited supply, so once he is out, he's out. The tips of shells are reinforced to pierce armoured plating. It can be used in alt form, and rests between the air intakes (those are closed when flying in space). It is on a pivot, so that it can fire in any of the directions except of course up. In bot form it rests between his wings on his back.
2 tail guns: these can fire an assortment of ammo and non ammo. They are situated at the back. They can fire up, down and at an angle to the sides, but since they are placed between the vertical stabilizers, cannot fire directly at a 90 degree angle to the left or right. There is also a section above his cockpit that they do not cover. These can also fire missile deflectors. Not as strong as the weapons mentioned above.
Aerial Gear shredder (fired by tail guns as well): An aerial version of gear shredder like weapon, which is used usually as means to put a distance between himself and a hostile aircraft. While it may not cause as much damage as other weapons, it can distract the enemy long enough and if hitting it the right place, can have the effect of 'porcupine spines in a dog's nose'. The redesign of the thin blades also allows for them to be a little harder to pull out and to release a mild electrical current if touched. They are not very accurate unless at close quarters. Also come in a limited supply.
10 slots for missiles, which can be mounted on him if needed. Usually 4 heat seeking missiles at most are used, with additional 2 that are manually controlled. Only used in alt form.
Gadgets :
Description:
Long range scanner: used when his visor is down if in bot form. When in use, it can be detected by the hostiles if in close range, so he usually keeps the time of use to it shortest possible and thereafter changes position right away. If used at the same time as the aforementioned, it causes a short lag in the mirroring.
Abilities :
Description:
Chameleon power: special adaptation for a jet in motion. Saps energy. While it provides visual cover for the plane, it does not mask the sound of his engines. If hit it can malfunction to cause partial coverage. If hit worse it can be entirely deactivated. It takes images of the plane's surroundings and mirrors them onto his body in such a way that the aircraft appears invisible. Smoke can mar its performance as the movement of the plane through it, will affect the movement of the smoke whereas the mimicry flickers between following the change or masking it. He can choose to partially cover himself, to save energy. However the choice of partial cover is only between the underside or the top side of the plane. When not in alt mode, this ability is usually used at home base, especially when 'grounded' for long periods of time. If intense pressure is applied to his neck fuel lines, it also flickers out to reveal its user. When low on energon this power cannot be used and attempts to do so resemble a wash of 'invisibility' that does not cover the whole body and flickers out quickly, usually the image lags as well.
Long range scanner: Used when his visor is down if in bot form. When in use, it can be detected by the hostiles if in close range, so he usually keeps the time of use to it shortest possible. It is sensible to change possition after use. If used at the same time as the aforementioned, it causes a short lag in the mirroring.
OTHER
History :
Comes probably from Vos. Has not actively participated in gladiator games although he claims to have certain experiences in that area. For a time he was serving one of the higher caste bots, stuck mostly indoors. At that time he also participated in the games organised by the bot for the select few. His wings at the time were snapped, flaps removed, although a hologram made it appear as if they were in perfect order, a blocker had been installed to keep his engines from reaching the power required to lift off, while his stabilizers remained untouched. The irony of it all was that the bot was actually a Functionist supporter in public, yet had been dissatisfied with his own mode, which while offering him a life in a higher caste, had not given him the ability which WingOver had been given per default. The reason why this young bot had been singled out was rather trivial. Ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time was all that it took. Naively believing that he was being offered a higher ranked job of a personal guard to the bot, with a few bonuses partaining to what the law normally did not allow – flying above the acceptable speed and for no reason that served the public but for his own pleasure, he accepted the offer.
Once the town was destroyed after the great dispute between the Vos and Tarn, and the Decepticons took over, his freedom was obtained. He eagerly joined the Decepticon's cause. It meant change and there were a few perks that came with it too. His wings were fixed and a few upgrades and additional changes later, he was back in the air.
He got arrested later on. It is assumed, that his arrest was due to his active involvement in the fighting in the name of his new faction. He was sent to Garrus-1. His cellmate would later join the Autobots, while WingOver remained loyal to the Deceptions, even with what he might have witnessed while in prison, or perhaps because of it. There is little data about what had happened in between the time of his arrest till the time of his arrival on the new planet.
He arrived on the new planet in a pod that crashed with the usual 'grace' of an escape pod. Only... none of the above is something he would be able to recall if you asked him about his past. Due to becoming a prisoner to the Autobots almost as soon as he landed, his processor was subjected to Shadowplay, his frame was replaced with a new one (since a certain Prime decided to use it as target practice/punching bag to vent his frustrations.... ahem). His new name is ShadowZone. He remembers Autobots as his savours and his loyalty lies fully with them. If he ever does have questions and concerns about his true identity, well the Autobots thought of that as well. There's a code, that very few know, that 'reboots' his memory and erases those concerns.
Strengths :
- A very skilled flyer , he excels in several kinds of backbreaking maneuvers and strives to learn more. He is capable of a few tricks, that other jets may struggle or are unable to perform such as also the cobra maneuver. And he is capable of flight in space.
- A fairly good shot, he prefers to fight his battles at a distance.
- Surprisingly apt at stealth, when it requires not being caught on radar and flying at low altitudes. His chameleon power helps him a lot at that, as well as the landing gear being in his knees to reduce sound when he's in need of lowering himself to the ground . Of course his size will still prevent him from entering areas that he is just too big for. He can fold his wings to take less space going straight ahead.
- If you're a bot with wings and can fly, then you can with a fair amount of certainty count on him to have your back. But don't betray the Autobots or else there shall be no mercy unless ordered otherwise.
- His loyalty lies with the Autobots because he just doesn't remember anything better. He will not betray information, no matter how much 'convincing' he is subjected to. If he 'betrays' anything, it is just as well going to be a well constructed lie. Otherwise, just silence.
Weaknesses :
- His leg turbines: If those are too damaged for use he looses his ability of flight. The thrusters are not enough to keep him airborne for long, lift him anywhere high and mostly would keep him hovering at best, but not going anywhere fast.
- Size: While it can be an asset against smaller bots, he is unable to get into most buildings, except hangars and cybertronian built structures. If a cave system gets narrower, this bot is not following anybody down a tunnel. The wings can get in the way there as well.
- Careless: when fighting he is not known to be very attentive of his Energon reserves and how much he is using up. This has had him flying on vapours a couple of times, when returning back to base and it mind be the reason he doesn't get home either. His flying when not in formation, can easily be considered that as well.
- Has issues with bird flocks: especially when they are made up of larger species of birds. Since he has a habit of flying quite low, he has had several encounters with them, and having a few of them sucked into his engines wasn't the most joyous of events.
- Not loyal to 'Groundies': He might risk his hide to bring the Aerials to safety or defend them, while he has no qualm about abandoning the rest unless standing orders are to assist them. Prime is an exception to the 'Groundies' rule at all times.
SAMPLE RP
"So, are we going?" He inquired, spotting one of the other Decepticons enter the room he was currently occupying. A few moments ago the argument had still been in full swing. It was loud, and he thought he might have even heard a few fists hit. He hadn't bothered to get up and see what was going on. It didn't sound serious enough anyway. Not the sort that would promise a change in command, an overturning of the previous Con in charge.
