I personally don't see why it should be a competition. As I said, the method chosen would vary from mentor to mentor to begin with. I'm pretty sure I have a different style of teaching than you, Grief, and to make a "one-method-only" system would only inhibit our ability to teach. Additionally, different members will likely learn better in different ways, but, we really won't know until we try.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I don't see which method would be "superior". It all depends on the mentor(s) and member(s) involved in the lessons.

I wasn't the one who called it a competition. >.>; I don't agree with what Plexo said; I'm not competing with anyone, for anything. I, personally, pushed to get this new mentor system approved simply because I saw ways that I thought I could help users to improve their RP, and wanted to do so without getting flakk for overstepping boundaries, being accused of flaming members.
If other mods and admins want to have substitutes, I'd say have at it. I won't be using one, personally, as I've always (or so I've been told) given helpful, beneficial counsel through the use of constructive criticism.
However, I do believe that by immediately implementing a substitute means that you're expecting to have to make use of one. (For leaves of absences, for the sake of continuing a member's mentoring, this is entirely understandable.) It may, in some cases, reflect on the staff not taking the mentor system seriously. That is an extreme argument, I realize, but in some areas of the world such reasoning is common-thinking, and as this is a global RP site, with this in mind, I wholeheartedly agree that working with members on an individual basis according to their specific needs is the way to go.

The method you suggested in choosing which method was superior lead to my jump to a competition. I apologize for the assumption. While I don't have an immediate need for a substitute, there is a high possibility of the need much later on (I have a yearly competition during which I will be absent for approximately 2-3 weeks in the summer). As such, I see no reason to wait until the last minute to decide on such a matter, given the speed at which decisions are made here. That being said, I do respect your opinion, and you do have a point about the global RP and the views of the members. I assure you, I will be taking my responsibilities in mentoring seriously.
